Amitabh Bachchan made Olympic history today as London 2012's first torch bearer from the Indian film fraternity.
Greeted by thousands of cheering fans, the legendary actor carried the Olympic torch for 300 metres as part of a relay team, as it made its way through the London Borough of Southwark.
Speaking to the assembled press after the relay Bachchan said: "It is a matter of great pride and honour that I have been selected to participate as a torch bearer for this prestigious event, the London Olympics, particularly since I don't live in this country.

The filmmaker's quirky sense of humour is evident in his plans for the ceremony, which feature 70 sheep, 12 horses, 10 chickens, three sheep dogs, real grass and a plough.
There is also a game of cricket, a mosh pit and fake clouds which will rain on performers.
More than 10,000 volunteers have been enlisted to help create Boyle's vision, and the Opening Ceremony is likely to be watched by one billion people.
